JERSEY CITY BLACK COMIC CON
Jersey City Black Comic Con is a mini-documentary capturing the energy of a two-day celebration of Black creators in the heart of Ward A, Jersey City.
We swung by on the first day, landing right as a cosplay contest was kicking off. The talent in the room was incredible. Through interviews with host, contest winners, and a comic book creator, one theme emerged loud and clear: like what you like, and be yourself.
Jersey City Black Comic Con is a celebration of Black comic culture, creativity, and community held at the Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center in the Greenville neighborhood of Jersey City, one of the city's most historically significant communities.
The event brought together artists, vendors, cosplayers, and fans across two days, centering Black creators in a space that is often underrepresented in mainstream comic and pop culture events. The cosplay contest was a highlight showcasing the range, craftsmanship, and joy that defines this community.
The interviews with winners captured something real: the permission to fully embrace what you love, without apology.
